What We Look For

6 TYPES OF WIND DAMAGE WE DOCUMENT

Wind damage is not always obvious. Some of the most expensive damage is invisible from the ground. Here is what we look for on every inspection.

1

Missing Shingles

Wind lifts shingles and tears them off completely. Even one missing shingle lets water pour into your home. We find every gap and document it for your claim.

2

Lifted Shingle Edges

High winds get under the edges of shingles and lift them up. They may look flat from the ground but the seal is broken. Water gets in every time it rains.

3

Damaged Ridge Cap

The ridge cap runs along the very top of your roof. It takes the most wind. Cracked or missing ridge caps are one of the most common covered wind claims.

4

Pulled Flashing

Wind pulls metal flashing away from chimneys, vents, and skylights. Once the flashing lifts, water runs straight into your home.

5

Fallen Tree or Branch

A tree or large branch on your roof is an emergency. We tarp it the same day to stop water damage while your insurance claim is processed.

6

Damaged Gutters

Strong winds can rip gutters off your home or bend them out of shape. Damaged gutters send water straight into your foundation.

Wind Damage Guide

WHAT WIND SPEED DOES TO YOUR ROOF

45 to 55 mph
Tropical Storm Force

Shingles begin to lift at edges and corners. Flashing may loosen. Most standard shingles are rated to 60 mph but installation quality matters significantly.

55 to 75 mph
Severe Thunderstorm

Shingles peel back or blow off entirely. Ridge caps and hip shingles are most vulnerable. Gutters can be pulled away from fascia. Typically a covered insurance event.

75 mph+
Near-Hurricane Force

Structural damage possible. Entire sections of roofing can be removed. Decking may be exposed. Emergency tarping required immediately to prevent interior water damage.

Agawam, Southwick, Feeding Hills, West Suffield, and Suffield and Northern Connecticut experience severe thunderstorm wind events multiple times per year. If your area had a storm warning in the past 12 months, call us for a free inspection.

WIND DAMAGE QUESTIONS ANSWERED

I only lost a few shingles. Is that worth filing a claim?

It depends on the extent of the damage and your deductible. A few missing shingles can expose your roof deck to water damage that compounds over time. We inspect for free and tell you honestly whether a claim makes sense for your specific situation.

My roof looks fine from the ground. Should I still get it inspected?

Yes. Wind damage often affects the edges, corners, and ridge of your roof where shingles are most vulnerable. These areas are not visible from the ground. We get on the roof and inspect every section, including the areas most likely to be damaged.

How do I prove the damage was from wind and not age?

This is exactly why you need us before you call your insurance company. We document the specific pattern of damage, photograph the affected areas, and write a report that clearly attributes the damage to a wind event. Age-related wear looks very different from wind damage, and we know how to tell the difference.

What if my insurance company sends an adjuster who says it is just wear and tear?

We can request a re-inspection and provide our own documentation to dispute the finding. We have successfully overturned initial denials many times. Do not accept a denial without talking to us first.
